Importing goods into Côte d’Ivoire requires strict compliance with a rigorous administrative procedure, supported by a complete set of documentation. The primary commercial document is the supplier’s final invoice, which must be written in French or accompanied by a certified translation. It must clearly state the full details of the parties involved, a precise description of the goods, unit prices, currency of transaction, and the agreed Incoterms. This invoice must be accompanied by the Packing List, detailing the gross weight, net weight, and exact volume of each package in the shipment.

From a transport perspective, the transport document is the legal identity of your goods throughout their journey. For sea freight shipments to the Port of Abidjan, this document is called the Bill of Lading (B/L). For air freight, it is known as the Air Waybill (AWB). This document proves ownership of the goods and governs their release at destination.

On the Ivorian administrative side, the Import Declaration Form (Fiche de Déclaration à l’Importation – FDI) is a mandatory requirement for any commercial transaction with a FOB value equal to or greater than 500,000 FCFA. The FDI must be issued online via the one-stop shop for foreign trade (GUCE) before shipment from the country of origin. Failure to comply with this requirement may result in significant fines upon arrival of the cargo.
